We went out for lunch........

The appetizer was a collection of crunchy bites
and pita chips with a mango salsa.
For the soup course, we had our choice of a
hearty beef with vegetables or a Chunky
Chicken Noodle.
The main course was  both roast beef and
meatballs with a dipping sauce. These were
served with side dishes of egg rolls, pot
stickers, and butternut squash lasagna. For
dessert there was a fruit drink that promised
more energy and some Greek yogurt with
strawberry preserves.
The dishes were all freshly prepared and the
service was quick.  The staff was professional
and polite.  We have heard that you can expect
the same service almost any time,
though the menu changes
from day to day. When we
finished our lunch we
grabbed a case of paper
towels and left Costco.
Sutherlin Senior Center
Take some time to check out the Sutherlin Senior center. Timber
Valley's own Ketty Sorrenson is Senior Vice President there
and she can answer all of your questions. Their recently
remodeled facility provides the space for their many activities.
There is a large pool room with daily play and Monday
tournaments. They have a room just for the wood carvers.
There is line dancing, Bingo, Pinochle, and Red Hat meetings.
They even have 3 Wii machines.

Maxine's Boutique is a tiny thrift shop right in the center of the
building with all proceeds going to support the center. The
center receives no federal funding and must support itself with
fund raisers and donations.
Many turn out for their 3 times a week lunch; just a $3 donation
will get you lunch on Tuesday, Thursday and Friday.  The once
a month meat loaf is their most popular. At that lunch they have
a 50/50 drawing with half of the proceeds to the winner and half
to buy coffee supplies.

You won't find any seniors quietly rocking the time away there.
They are a bright, active bunch that have great pride in their
center and would love to welcome you.

Dial A Ride is looking for some volunteers to
dispatch or drive. Dial-A-Ride is an important
resource for citizens who need transportation
to appointments and shopping and who not
able to drive themselves. There is no set fee
for transportation but donations are accepted.
Dial-A-Ride serves the Sutherlin-Oakland area.
The work is not hard. Shifts are only 4 hours
long and they will train you. These are our
neighbors and they need our help.

Dial-A-Ride Needs Your Help

Mildred Kanipe Memorial Park is located
8 miles northeast of Oakland, Oregon at
16513 Elkhead Road.
In 1983, Mildred Kanipe, a colorful woman
farmer passed away, and left her beloved
ranch to the public as a county park. Mildred’s
gift included almost 1,100 acres of land
consisting of pastures, creeks, rolling hills,
orchards and forests. Historical structures
include a turn-of-the-century schoolhouse, a
farmhouse, and outbuildings. She wished the
buildings to be preserved, a ranch museum
developed, equestrian trails to be available
and the land was to remain an animal refuge,
the land and plants preserved.

The recent extreme rains have filled the Cooper Creek
reservoir  beyond usual capacity. The spillways are
designed to channel the excess water away from the dam,
relieving the pressure on the dam
In the summer and fall the spillways are usually dry and
empty but they are essential in the protection of the dam and
Timber Valley.
